One of the most famous variants of poker and also known for its simplicity. In Texas Hold'em each player holds two private cards, and tries to make the best 5-card hand with the combination of those two cards and five public cards.
When you are looking at what you have for your (combined) hand, and trying to contrast it with what your opponent might have, the possibilities for your opponent are rich (but not unlimited). In principle, you can enumerate all the hands that might beat you.
An all-time classic and the perfect starting point if you’re new to the game. It plays out in the following stages :
Pre-flop – each player is dealt two ‘hole’ cards face down
The flop – then comes three ‘community’ cards dealt face up
The turn – you get a fourth community card
The river – you get a fifth community card
Bets are placed after each step as players call, raise or fold after checking their cards. The aim: to make the best five-card poker hand out of the seven cards available. In this type, the players need to keep their cards concealed till all the betting rounds end and the game reaches showdown.
